The name Thaler was derived from the word Tolar. Tolars were minted between 1518 and 1892 in Jachymov, Czechoslovakia and became the most widely used currency of the time. The Tolars were fairly large in size, weighed 1 ounce, and were made from silver. The Spanish name for Tolars was "dolera", from which originated the currently used name, "dollar". | |
